In recent years, global consumer-grade small rotorcraft (UAV, unmanned aerial vehicles) are flourishing, and the purchase quantity presents a tendency of multiplying each year.

The small rotorcraft (UAVs) have numerous beneficial applications, and it is affordable, easy to obtain and simple to fly. However, it is creating threats to critical infrastructure protections, such as government premises, military bases, VIP residences, airports, borders, prisons, etc.

The supervision and jamming measures against UAVs took by various countries in the world lag significantly behind the development of UAVs, and the security incidents regarding various kinds of small rotorcraft (UAVs) frequently appear in newspapers.

ND-BU001 Standard UAV Detecting and Jamming System has been designed and developed against consumer-grade small rotorcraft (UAVs), combining long-range detecting function, jamming function and track-record function into one. The system is mainly used to protect related key area, in order to respond to the threats, such as illegal aerial photography, terrorist attack, drug trafficking. 

The system mainly consists of Detecting System, Jamming System, Camera System and Control System. The Detecting System is for detecting and tracking long-distance UAVs and leads the Jamming System to interfere with the remote control circuits and navigation signals of the UAVs and force the UAVs landing or returning, for the purpose of protecting the key area against UAVs.

The Camera System can efficiently record the tracks of the detected UAV for further close inspection, and also assist with the Detecting System for more accurate monitoring. The aforesaid systems will work cooperatively under the coordination of the Control System.

Such as explosive, radioactive materials, shooting can be used both against institutions, as well as against the general public.

Unauthorized and Uncoordinated Flight:

Drones can impose a great threat in and around airports, endangering aircrafts and helicopters by flying in their take-off/landing approach paths.

Detecting System Description

The UAV Detecting System which employs the 3D active phased-array radar is the key to the whole ND-BU001 System. 

The phased-array radar is a category of radar sensors which are capable of monitoring hostile activities on the surroundings of critical infrastructures and objects deserved to be protected from threats, however, such kind of radar could not detect UAVs directly. 

As UAV RCS* is quite small, of which size is near to 0.01m2 (the size of DJI Phantom 3 Micro Drone RCS is 0.01 m2), it's especially difficult to detect UAVs. (*RCS: Radar cross-section (RCS) is a measure of how detectable an object is with radar. A larger RCS indicates that an object is more easily detected. An object reflects a limited amount of radar energy back to the source.) 

The 3D active phased-array radar we employed with the unique algorithm to focus on small RCS flying object, is able to rapidly report the speed, distance, direction, altitude and other information of the invading UAV.

By adopting the UAV Detecting System, quite more accurate tracking data would be showed through electronic scanning. Within the same detecting range, both the power consumption and the dimension of the ND-BU001 System are much smaller.

Jamming System Description

The UAV Jamming System could block radio frequencies used by UAVs as well as the frequency bands of GPS LI system in case that UAVs fly in auto-pilot mode.

Depending on the application, protection level and geographical location, the UAV Jamming System would be adapted regarding frequency band coverage and output power.

The detected UAV may be tracked by radar itself. Combined with the directional antenna mounted on a pan-tilt platform, the tracking allows positioning the jammer antenna directly onto the detected IJAV so as to transmit the Jamming signal precisely and focused into the UAV's direction.

Under guiding of the target information (speed, distance, direction and pitching) provided by the UAV Detecting System, the UAV Jamming System is able to rapidly adjust the antennas to interfere with the invading UAV, for the purpose of forcing the UAV at low altitude landing or returning.

• Remote control frequency jamming: coverage of all available civil drones

• Directional high-gain antennas mounted on Pan-Tilt platform to follow the drone (track) and to transmit the jamming signal in the direction of the UAV (drone)

• Frequency jamming can be done automatically upon UAV detection or upon supervisor assistance

Camera System Description

The UAV detecting and tracking results could be indicated by optical camera. When an UAV is detected, the long-range video tracker with daylight camera would slew to the position of the UAV and follow with precision, allowing further close inspection of such vehicle and its payload.
